The iconic Paris runway show comes to print in the new V magazine issue 148. Maison Margiela’s SS24 collection reminded people of why they fell in love with fashion while emphasizing the art and theatrics of the runway. The collection offers a feeling of nostalgia and compels a story rather than displaying the latest trends that we see in fashion. George Cortina works with the well-respected collection and creates art in print. Model Lulu Tenney was dressed in a beautiful green fringe-like skirt that accentuates the waist with an alluring corset. The corset’s delicate patterns and beautiful touches of color complement the skirt. The look is topped off with a cropped, off-the-shoulder sweater in a green that resembles the skirt. The sweater adds a draping effect to the model, accentuating the collarbone and shoulders while adding movement to an otherwise form-fitting look. In another look, George Cortina’s talent mixed with Galliano’s creative designs creates an outfit that looks as if she walked off a canvas. Lulu Tenney was dressed in a nude bodysuit accented with smears of diluted colors giving the appearance of a watercolor canvas. Perfectly displaying the artistic history and influence that Paris had in the past and still today. The water downed colors add shadows and dimensions that make the overall look pop. The bodysuit is elevated with a nude corset and a black, sheer overdress that creates an almost flower petal effect at the bottom of the dress. This detail adds the delicate feel of the watercolor as it adds an airiness to the outfit. The colors and fabric create the look of distortion, especially when looking at the model’s face. This look was taken from what could have been a monochrome nude and turned into a form of living art. This collection rocked the fashion world when displayed in January of this year and has continued to amaze people of all ages and backgrounds. John Galliano’s attention to detail and storyline creates a theatrical experience that everyone can enjoy. George Cortina’s artistic perspective adds an extra level of fantasy to the storytelling and accentuates the art of the clothes even when met with the drowning effect of studio lights and camera flashes.
