Eric Ogden didn’t have his camera with him when he was walking around his new neighborhood on a sunny Sunday afternoon, but his photographic eye spotted these beautiful sidewalk altars freckled with rose petals on the streets of Williamsburg. Seeing Ogden’s intrigue, an old Polish woman who sat next to the altar explained that it was for the Feast of Corpus Christi, signaling to the towering Roman Catholic Church and the additional altars down the block. Ogden had to hurry: the procession was starting in minutes and he had to traverse these novel streets to fetch his camera back home. Luckily, he came back in time and was able to document the gorgeous parade of church members and priests marching down Metropolitan Ave. Reflecting on the encounter, Ogden reflects: “the bustling corners of Williamsburg stopped to watch, chattering hipsters with ice coffees, Gen Z’ers heading to the gym or hung over from a night of partying, all got quiet for a moment as the solemnly gorgeous pageant moved through the street, a mashup of culture that only NYC can offer.” Ogden’s spur of the moment creation perfectly exemplifies the benefits of always having your eyes peeled for the beautiful slivers of life that exist in every corner of the world.
