Inspired by archive pieces, Jean Paul Gautier F/W 23 show featured new takes on famous archive pieces that defined the house. Set against an all black background, pieces like Madonna’s iconic cone bra were redone and added to with new textiles and color pallets, often adding a jeweled metallic headpiece, and redefining what it means for couture looks to be old and new. The show, much like the collection pieces, featured a mix of familiar and new models ranging from Laetitia Casta to Natalia Vodianova cast by Piergiorgio Del Moro.
Coming off a high from the show that went viral on the internet for their animal heads and Doja Cat’s monochromatic, bedazzled-red, couture look, Schiaparelli had high expectations to meet this couture season. Set in Place Vendôme the collection dripped with regality. In a collection crafted to honor the greats, Daniel Roseberry designed each look inspired by a different designer. Looks featured gold accessories of every kind: chunky earrings, huge buttons, a life-size floral neck piece, gold facial features on the front of a black dress, and diamond encrusted mussel-esque necklaces. Not to mention the first ever Schiaparelli puffer made its debut, featuring a shiny beige fabric in the Schiaparelli classic, oversized but not baggy, structured shape. In tribute to the greats, models included the industry’s greats like Chrystèle Saint Louis Augustin, Magdalena Frackowiak, and Ai Tominaga cast by Piergiorgio Del Moro.
