In Chris Brooks’s recent editorial shoot for D la Repubblica’s September issue, he blends luxury fashion with the fabric of everyday life. This editorial is not only indicative of Brooks’s keen eye for still life, but his distinct ability to demonstrate the narrative life of the objects he shoots. Featuring heritage brands such as Dior, Fendi, Ferragamo, Hermes, MaxMara, Louis Vuitton, and YSL, Brooks illustrates how these brands aren’t about overconsumption, or what’s flashy, new, and disposable but rather how investing in these pieces means a guarantee of quality that will last a lifetime.
He envelopes the viewer into the lifespan on these objects, leaning into nostalgia to create a lived experience in which these objects exist, as seen through the newly drycleaned Dior coat and matching handbag lying on the plastic covered couch, YSL wedges on top of the outdated Sharp TV, Ferragamo sunglasses perched on the black panther statue, and Fendi bag hanging seamlessly on the front door.
