The infamous Gotham City is coming back to the main stage as the new Joker movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, is premiering in October. In presenting the beloved and eccentric Joker universe, Exposure NY’s Arianne Phillips made sure that all the characters dressed their parts. Phillips is a renowned costume designer who has worked on global blockbusters like Quentin Taratino’s Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, the Kingsman film franchise, and Harry Styles’s sophomore film Don’t Worry Darling. Phillips has also been a regular in Madonna’s camp, styling the worldwide artist for her world tours and music videos. With the character’s extensive filmography and specific qualities, the joker presents a different challenge for Phillips, but she successfully encapsulated the adorned villain’s identity in her design choices. From perfecting the Joker’s classic colored blazer look to the execution of the character’s other scruffy attire, Phillips didn’t miss a single seam or thread. She was able to materialize the abnormal character’s psyche onto their outward appearance, which invariably played a big part in creating a holistic character. Joker: Folie à Deux will premier in the United States on October 4th, and hopefully Arianne Phillips will soon be able to add another oscar nomination onto her long, growing list.
