Stacy's Picks: Special Occasion Birthday Dinner at Eleven Madison Park
It was my birthday last Thursday and David and I went to Eleven Madison for the chef's tasting menu: the three Michelin star restaurant with chef Daniel Humm at the helm. Let me tell you this was a fantastic meal from start to finish with the room adding another dimension to this slice of foodie heaven.
The dinning room is breathtaking - giant windows over-looking Madison Square Park, a gold leaf ceiling and a clean, art deco style. The minute you walk through the door, you know that you are in for a once in a lifetime experience!
The menu takes the term "playing with your food" to a whole new level. The courses mix the interactive - a savory black and white cookie presented in a ribbon-tied gift box that you open; a pretzel and cheese course served in a picnic basket and paired with a beer made especially for the restaurant, to the whimsical - carrot tartare that is ground tableside by your waiter with an antique meat grinder and served with a variety of condiments that you mix in to taste; a deconstructed clam chowder featuring little neck, whelk, and razor clams, with a broth that is added tableside; to the out of this world delicious - an aged spice rub coated duck breast served with apricot; surf clam with tomato beans; and a striped bass poached with zucchini and squash blossoms. The desserts close out this food fantasy with their own alcohol pairing - like the sassafras sorbet with banana cake, caramel and vanilla that is served with an apple brandy.
And if the menu and the location were not tempting enough, the ingredients included in the making of every dish are from the tri-state are and sourced within one hundred miles of the restaurant, adding a locavore touch to this over-the-top food experience.Eleven Madison Park11 Madison Ave.New York, NY 10010(212) 889 - 0905
